The amazing Asha was our Very Special Guest at our First Maddox's Helping Hand Foundation Fundraising Lunch. She is the 2nd patient in the world to receive experimental life changing treatment.
World-first surgery performed in which Dr Wagels implanted Reuben Lichter with a 3D printed shinbone to reconstruct his leg after Reuben developed a bone infection that destroyed 36 centimeters of his right tibia in 2017. The infection would normally result in an above-the-knee amputation instead, he undertook experimental world-first surgery to implant a 3D-printed bone into his right leg. Two years on from the surgery, Mr. Lichter is still defying the odds and has made a remarkable recovery and can now finally walk again.
This is the planning of a heart model for a Children's Cardiac Case – Medical Engineer surrounded by 3 cardiac surgeons working through the visualisation of the patients heart. Surgery was a complete success!
A Queensland schoolgirl has become the first patient in the state to receive an ear reconstruction with an ear reconstructed using a 3D printer.
